An amendment to Market Regulation No. 9, which regulates the marketing of imported bananas and plantains in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, establishes a new Section VIII-A for exemptions. This addition specifically exempts lots of plantains imported from the Dominican Republic under a bilateral commercial interchange agreement from compliance with Sections IV, V, and Sub-sections C of Section VI of the original regulation. To qualify for this exemption, each shipment requires prior written authorization from the Agricultural Services Administration of Puerto Rico and the Price Stabilization Institute of the Dominican Republic. The Secretary of Agriculture of Puerto Rico will determine the specific periods and amounts of plantains permitted under this exemption through proclamation. Promulgated under the authority of Act No. 241, this amendment will become effective thirty days after its publication in two general circulation newspapers and the filing of its texts with the Secretary of State.

AMENDMENT
TO ADD A NEW SECTION VIII-A TO MARKET REGULATION NO. 9 TO REGULATE THE MARKETING OF IMPORTED BANANAS AND PLANTAINS IN THE COMMONWEALTH OF PUERTO RICO', APPROVED ON MAY 3, 1961.
Section 1.- A new Section VIII-A is added to Market Regulation No. 9 'To Regulate the Marketing of Imported Bananas and Plantains in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico', approved on May 3, 1961, to be read as follows:
"Section VIII-A.- Exemptions
'Lots of plantains imported to Puerto Rico by virtue of the agreement for the commercial interchange of farm products on a complementary basis signed by the Governments of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and of the Dominican Republic are exempted from compliance with the provisions of Sections IV and V, and of Sub- sections C, Section VI of this Regulation. For each shipment of plantains under said agreement a previous written authorization of the Agricultural Services Administration of the Department of Agriculture of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and of the Price Stabilization Institute of the Dominican Republic shall be required. The periods and amounts of plantains to be so imported shall be established by proclamation of the Secretary of Agriculture of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico'.
Section 2.- This amendment is promulgated by the Secretary under the authority vested in him by Act No. 241, approved on May 3, 1950, as amended. The same shall take effect thirty (30) days after its publication in two newspapers of general circulation in Puerto Rico, and after filing the original and two copies of its Spanish and English texts in the Office of the Secretary of State of Puerto Rico, pursuant to the provisions of Act No. 112, approved on June 30, 1957, as amended.
