Esta ley declara la Primera Iglesia Evangélica Luterana en Cataño como monumento histórico, reconociendo su antigüedad, características arquitectónicas únicas y contribución a la historia y cultura de Puerto Rico. La ley instruye al Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña y al Municipio de Cataño a tomar medidas para su preservación y a incluirla en la lista de sitios históricos. También ordena a la Autoridad de Tierras instalar una placa conmemorativa.
To declare the First Evangelical Lutheran Church founded and located for more than one hundred (100) years in the Municipality of Cataño a historic monument.
Towards the end of the $19^{ ext {th }}$ Century and the beginning of the $20^{ ext {th }}$ Century, the Evangelical Lutheran Church, doctrine product of the Reform of the $16^{ ext {th }}$ century and of the work conducted by German theologian Martin Luther, initiated an evangelization process in Puerto Rico. They located founded and built their first church at No. 75 Barbosa Avenue in the Municipality of Cataño. Said structure has been in this location for more than one hundred (100) years. Due to the many years of construction of this structure, it has unique architectural characteristics and peculiarities that distinguish it from other structures of its time. The First Lutheran Church is considered a historic monument not only by the parishioners of the Lutheran Church but also by the residents of the Municipality.
At present, this structure is deteriorated and dilapidated. It is our duty as a society to preserve every patrimony that represents our history and identity as a people.
The Legislature recognizes the contribution that these structures make to our history, culture and identity as a people. This is the intention of this legislative measure.
Section 1.- The First Lutheran Church located at No. 75 Barbosa Avenue of the Municipality of Cataño is hereby declared a historic monument.
Section 2.- The Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, in coordination with the Municipality of Cataño shall take the necessary measures for the faithful compliance of the provisions of this Act, as set firth in Act No. 99 of June 22, 1961, as amended. Furthermore, the First Lutheran Church shall also be included in the list of historic sites and places, pursuant to the provisions of the laws and regulations in effect.
Section 3.- The Land Authority, with the advice of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture shall install a commemorative plaque alluding to said designation no later than six (6) months as of the effectiveness of this Act.
I hereby certify to the Secretary of State that the following Act No. 382 (H.B. 4004) of the $7^{ ext {th }}$ Session of the $14^{ ext {th }}$ Legislature of Puerto Rico:
AN ACT to declare the First Evangelical Lutheran Church founded and located for more than one hundred (100) years in the Municipality of Cataño a historic monument, has been translated from Spanish to English and that the English version is correct.
