(Approved September 15, 2004)
To designate Santa Rosa II Community School, located on P. R. No. 837, km. 4.4 of Santa Rosa II Ward in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, with the name of "Don Ernesto Cabrera Alejandro," in recognition of his distinguished and productive career as a public servant, which led him to be elected to the position of House Representative of former Representative District No. 40, which included the cities of San Juan and Guaynabo.
The people of Puerto Rico know how to acknowledge those who have given luster and prestige to the positions they have held in order to serve the country. We feel true pride and satisfaction for the legacy of those who have been examples of the spirit required to serve one's fellowmen. There is no doubt that we have been blessed for having countless fellow patriots of this caliber.
Since his young days, Don Ernesto Cabrera Alejandro, worked with his older brothers in several areas. His first professional employment was in the Municipality of Guaynabo as Administrator of Property. He dedicated his leadership to the cooperativist movement as a founding member of the Board of Directors of Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito de Guaynabo. He also dedicated a great part of his time to our Creator and to youth with the Movimiento de Cursillos de Cristiandad, practicing the word of God with his deeds.
Throughout his life, he was involved in Puerto Rican politics, and in 1972, he was elected House Representative for the former Representative District No. 40,
which included the municipalities of Guaynabo and San Juan. On a curious note, in 1972, upon being elected, they proposed installing telephone service at his residence due to necessity, since his Guaraguao Ward was one of the many wards without telephone service; but Don Ernesto Cabrera refused until all the people in his community could have such a necessary service as well.
After his tenure as a Legislator, he dedicated his life to doing business in his convenience store, Colmado Marie Aurea, and to the purchase and sale of real estate properties. Don Ernesto Cabrera died on May 2, 1997, in Auxilio Mutuo Hospital from a stroke. He was survived by his widow, children and grandchildren.
For all of the above, it is fitting to designate the Community School in Santa Rosa II Ward in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico with the name of Don Ernesto Cabrera Alejandro in testimony of the fact that this son of Guaynabo was and shall continue to be an example to be followed in our society, who always showed his commitment and support to all those who went to him in search of solutions for their problems. A public servant that gave much of himself to improve his community and help those around him.
