To _designate the fourth week of April of each year as the "Police Athletic League Week."
It is the public policy of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to provide children and adolescents with attention and care, and all those opportunities that lead to their better and more complete physical, emotional and intellectual development. The Police Athletic League, founded on April 22, 1943, that is to say, approximately sixty years ago, meets this objective, and has worked intensely for it, since its birth as a civic organization.
This prominent organization, through sports, the molding of highly educated police, and activities of various types pertinent for the complete development of children and adolescents, presently consists of more than 28,000 children, who are thus protected from vice, drugs and crime. Throughout its 60 years of existence, thousands of professionals, and civic, business, industrial and political leaders have benefited from its activities, aimed at providing wholesome relaxation, health, recreation, and leadership.
Many of our present civic and political leaders have belonged to the League. For example, the Honorable William Miranda Marín, Mayor of, Caguas Municipality; the Honorable Aníbal Meléndez, Mayor of Fajardo
