Act No. 81 of August 30, 1991, as amended, known as the "Autonomous Municipalities Act of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico," establishes that the Municipal Assembly shall exercise legislative power within the municipality. Municipal legislators play an essential role in the advancement of municipal administration, since they discharge the legislative process in their municipalities.
Municipal legislators exercise duties similar to those of the members of the [Commonwealth] Legislature in their endeavor within the legislative process. To such effect, Act No. 336 of December 10, 1999, which recognizes the work of municipal legislators, amends the "Autonomous Municipalities Act" to conform the latter to the actual functions of these officials by replacing the term "Municipal Assembly Member" with "Municipal Legislator."
The Legislature forgot, nevertheless, to attend to the term "Municipal Assembly" in Act No. 336 of 2000. This is the reason that makes it necessary to address this difference in terms, in order to establish uniformity and clarity when denominating aspects relative to the municipal legislative process.
To such effects, this Act intends to replace the term "Municipal Assembly" with "Municipal Legislature" throughout the text of the "Autonomous Municipalities Act of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico" and of any other legislation mentioned therein. We also provide for the very same amendment to any and all statutes in which the said term is referred to or is used.
Section 1.- Act No. 81 of August 30, 1991, as amended, known as the "Autonomous Municipalities Act of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico," is hereby amended to change the term "Municipal Assembly" throughout its entire text and replace it with "Municipal Legislature."
Section 2.- Any Act in which said term is made reference to or is used shall be construed to have been hereby amended, for which reason the term "Municipal Assembly" shall mean "Municipal Legislature."
Section 3.- This Act shall take effect immediately after its approval.
I hereby certify to the Secretary of State that the following Act No. 22 (H.B. 1150) of the $2^{ ext {nd }}$ Session of the $14^{ ext {th }}$ Legislature of Puerto Rico:
AN ACT to amend Act No. 81 of August 30, 1991, as amended, known as the "Autonomous Municipalities Act of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico," in order to change the term "Municipal Assembly" throughout its entire text and replace it with "Municipal Legislature"; and to provide for the same modification to be made in any and all statutes in which said term is referred to or is used., has been translated from Spanish to English and that the English version is correct.
