Resumen
Esta ley enmienda la Ley Núm. 314 de 24 de diciembre de 1998 para prohibir la caza en el área conocida como "El Caño o Ciénaga Tiburones", propiedad de la Autoridad de Tierras, con el fin de proteger su valor ecológico como reserva natural y hábitat de vida silvestre.

AN ACT
To amend Section 2 of Act No. 314 of December 24, 1998, in order to prohibit hunting in the area known as "El Caño or Ciénaga Tiburones," owned by the Land Authority.
STATEMENT OF MOTIVES
Act No. 314 of December 24, 1998, designated as a natural reserve, the area known as "El Caño," or "Ciénaga Tiburones" owned by the Land Authority. This natural reserve is of great ecological value for its wetlands, which are of vital importance for wildlife; therefore it is of compelling interest to protect the habitat of the caño.
For years, the habitat of this natural reserve has been altered, because hunting is not expressly forbidden in said area. Residents adjacent to "El Caño or "Ciénaga Tiburones," have denounced that their peace, is being disrupted due its effect. Frequently, large numbers of dead pigeons are found in said sector, which affects it negatively because it propitiates the pollution of the "El Caño." On the other hand, Act No. 241 of August 15, 1999, known as the "New Wildlife Act of Puerto Rico" authorizes the Secretary of the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources to delimit, through regulations, those areas in which hunting is permitted.
For these reasons, the Legislature of Puerto Rico deems it is essential to preserve "El Caño" or "Ciénaga Tiburones" which has already been declared
a natural reserve, in the best condition possible, to maintain it in natural state. To achieve this objective, the Secretary of the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources is hereby directed to prohibit hunting in said sector.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF PUERTO RICO:
Section 2.- Section 2 of Act No. 314 of December 24, 1998, is hereby amended to read as follows: "Section 2.- The Chairperson of the Planning Board is hereby directed to declare "El Caño or Ciénaga" as a natural reserve, subject to the other provisions established in this Act. In order to conserve the area in its natural state, the Secretary of the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources is hereby directed to prohibit hunting in said sector."
Section 3.- This Act shall take effect immediately after its approval.

I hereby certify to the Secretary of State that the following Act No. 147 (H.B. 423) of the $1^{ ext {st }}$ Session of the $14^{ ext {th }}$ Legislature of Puerto Rico:
AN ACT to amend Section 2 of Act No. 314 of December 24, 1998, in order to prohibit hunting in the area known as "El Caño or Ciénaga Tiburones," owned by the Land Authority, has been translated from Spanish to English and that the English version is correct.
